Spanish E-Book

Post Options
Lately there has been a huge amount of research done that shows how important it is to read to your children before they go to bed. Why not take this opportunity, while you're already reading to your children to expose them even more to some great foreign language books! Courtesy of spanishplayground.net I found a free e-book that you can pull up on the computer or iPad or Tablet PC that has great pictures, simple text, and a great way for you to connect with your children over a book! Click here for a link to the e-book. Check in next week for a link to a French e-book!

Website Resources

SMILE, IT'S MONDAY! :)
So, i'm pretty sure I have used this site before, but I figured I would share it with you again as just another resource to add to your endless supply of websites i'm sure you have by now! Though the site isn't extremely user-friendly, I think it serves the purpose of sharing a variety of games for your children fairly well. The site is safe and if your children are old enough, let them explore on their own, finding the fun in learning!

Color Activities

This month your kids will be reviewing the colors with use of the rainbow, so I thought it would be appropriate to share activities that you can do at home with their new vocabulary. Repetition and perfect practice makes perfect! Courtesy of enchantedlearning.com I found a fun HANDS-on activity!

You will need:
  • Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple construction paper
  • A large piece of neutral-colored paper (about 2 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 ft long), or work directly on a bulletin board
  • Scissors
  • A pencil and a marker
  • Glue
Using the colored construction paper, have the children trace their hands. Make about 10 handprints of each of the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple).
Cut out the hand prints and put the child's name on his or her print.
Glue the handprints onto the paper in a rainbow shape.

You now have a Handprint Rainbow to help you celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Be sure to use the vocabulary of the colors for each language.

For French, click here, and print the page out and have your children color in the pictures and label them. For Spanish, click here and do the same!

Also, if your children still need review, OR you would like to brush-up on your Spanish, click here for French and click here for Spanish, for a nice little presentation with pictures (sorry no picture for the French one) and pronunciation.

Resources

For months now, I have been posting ample free sources of learning materials for you to share with your children. So I figured I would switch things up a bit for today and give you a website with tons of books and activities that you can buy that are fairly priced and great resources for you and your children at home. The site has everything from French and Spanish Dr. Seuss books, to themed dinner plates to French and Spanish alphabet blocks. We have no connection with f0reignlanguagefun.com and do not receive anything if you purchase from them, but I thought it was a good resource to share. Also please feel free to explore the site for other free podcasts, apps, videos and more!

Video time!

It's been a little while since the last time I shared a fun (catchy) video, so I did some searching and found some videos for you to watch with your children.

The French video I found is a nice mix of both English and French, with inclusion of a variety of types of words such as numbers, colors and more!
The Spanish video is a counting video with ducklings, try to have your children recognize the patterns (also a great skill they learn in math during school) and follow along with lyrics which are easy to remember.

Songs!

As i'm sure you have been able to tell by now, we try to use as many songs as possible to expose your children to French and Spanish. Learning by singing, and getting involved is a fun way for children of all ages to grasp new concepts, understand new words and have fun while doing so! Hopefully your kids have been practicing at home what they learn in class! Also, be sure to continue listening to your CDs which have a bunch of great songs on them! If you ave already covered all of the songs on the CD at home, there are many free websites on the internet that offer songs, lyrics, videos and more. Courtesy of freesongsforkids.com, here are some more songs and videos for you!

In our classes we are talking about families and learning the associated vocabulary. BBC has a great website for learning new languages; on the site you can see translations, listen to pronunciation, watch videos and listen to songs. Try and set aside a few minutes to explore the site with your children and expand their foreign language knowledge!
